Banana tree, Taketomi Island

There is only one village on Taketomi Island, with traditional Okinawan architecture, beautiful beaches, stone walls, sand streets and transportation by water buffalo-drawn carts. It had a population of 323 as of January 2012.

Okinawa has a subtropical climate, so it wasn’t surprising to find bananas growing in somebody’s yard.
