There is only one village on Taketomi Island, with traditional Okinawan architecture, beautiful beaches, stone walls, sand streets and transportation by water buffalo-drawn carts. It had a population of 323 as of January 2012.
The “engine” of the main means of transportation on the island. I agree it looks cruel to tether them this way, but it does seem to be the way its done with these water buffalo, and not just in Okinawa. See the previous picture for the cart it is pulling.
