We finally decided to go down to the Tidal Basin today as the weather was spectacular, with a brilliant blue sky and a bright sun. Although half the cherry blossoms were destroyed by poor weather last month, some had survived, but many trees were past their peak. I wanted to go not just to see the floral display but to take a comparison photo for the one below, from 2009, before the Jefferson Memorial was attacked by a biofilm that is growing and can’t be destroyed. Such a pity because I always felt this particular memorial was the most beautiful in Washington.
