‘A Leap in Faith’ by Nermine Hammam

From the series “Unfolding” by Nermine Hammam of Cairo and London: “This series of digital collages combines reproductions of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Japanese screens with incidents of police brutality during the year following the Egyptian revolution

“The original news image in ‘A Leap in Faith’ records Egyptian riot police battling with protesters in Tahrir Square over a tent city set up to commemorate revolutionary martyrs. The figure draped in the Egyptian flag to the left recalls the subject of Eugene Delacroix’s ‘Liberty Leading the People,’ painted to commemorate France’s July Revolution of 1830.”

This image needs to be viewed in original size for full effect.
