Green heron

As probably most people are aware, I don’t know anything about birds, but if I had to hazard a totally uneducated guess, I would say this looks like some kind of heron. I really wish the image quality was better, but it just isn’t too great with the Sony, at least this Mark 4 version, especially with any kind of cropping.

Lotus pond, posted earlier.

Green heron, as all have said. We have many of them here, nesting in trees. They are good hunters and sometimes hard to photograph as they are wary of people. Good catch of him hunting for a juicy crawfish.

I hadn't realised they are so much smaller than grey; no apologies needed

Excellent, Helen! That's a Green Heron, so named because of the greenish tint to its topknot and back. Lots of red on the chest.. My PAD for yesterday is of one with a good sized catch, a Carp, I believe.

I'd say a heron too, although it looks quite dwarfed against those leaves!

I'd say the same as you, a heron. Can't wait for you to go back there with your good camera gear ... if it is safe to do so! Great catch
