This was taken during prayer time at the hospital while I was waiting for Tim to see his doctor. I must say that I’m impressed how people here will pray wherever they are, in open courtyards, in alcoves in shopping malls, pretty much anywhere, something one would never see in any other place I have lived. I wish I had the call to prayer to post with it, which I did record that evening, but there was just too much extraneous noise and I don’t think the clip turned out well enough.
One time when I was sitting in the women’s waiting room at the hospital, a woman walked in and put the prayer carpet that is provided there on the ground. Unfortunately, I was sitting in the direction of Makkah, so I got up to leave to get out of her way and also give her some privacy. She indicated I didn’t have to leave the room, just sit in a chair on a different wall. Then she started her prayers, which lasted about five minutes. As I said, I find such open demonstration of faith impressive.
