Monkey quest: Wicked vegetation

We took a day trip with a group of friends out to this area, which I think was east of Riyadh, to see monkeys, probably baboons, which somebody had seen there before in large numbers. Unfortunately we didn’t encounter any wildlife, but had a nice time visiting and driving around in search of the elusive critters.

I have no idea what this is, but some of the sparse vegetation we saw in the area.

Well-armed vegetation, like a lot of dry area plants (cacti for example). V
