Looking for attention

The herd of camels in the picture below had paraded along the beach of the resort we were staying at and then stopped to graze in an area just off the premises. This camel broke away from the group and decided to check out the hotel guests. The handler caught up with it and brought it back to its friends, and then demanded money from me for taking pictures of his camels! I realized later maybe the whole parade of camels was staged deliberately for hotel guests, which I guess is OK because I think most of them never left the beach to see anything of Salalah or Oman, but still, the money thing irritated me.

That would irritate me too, but I guess everyone has to make a buck.

I've had many experiences of being asked for money for photos. It's quite common. In places, it forms part of the income, dressing up in local costume. I can see why, at times.

Never seen a beach shot with a camel in it before :) Cheeky of the handler wanting a hand out !! V

Had demands like this in Egypt at the pyramids, there it was the local police on camels demanding money as you 'got them in your photo'!

Maybe not at the beach, but camel get attention from your viewers :).
Great capture.

Such a pity that it left you with a bad feeling (I would have been the same), it is such a nice shot.

That looks quite unusual scene on the beach! Nice that you've manage to share this image. V

The inquisitive camel really looks unusual walking towards the hotel beach. Cool shot! V

I love this shot Helen. I can't imagine a camel walking up to me on a beach! Excellent.

LOL ~ this is a great shot Helen! Certainly not something I'd ever see in Cape May! :))
As far as paying the guy for the privilege of shooting his camel, why not? It's not like you have this opportunity every day.... he's got to earn a living too.

Too bad your enjoyment of the camels had to be intruded upon by a harsh reality.

Beautiful images Helen....BV

Things like this happen all over the world these days. You can not blame the owners or vendors who wants to earn some money if tourists want to pay for such service. I prefer to explore a country rather then staying on a beach, but everyone has it's own idea about holidays. luckely were all different.

Goody!! Bring on as many camels as you have & nice to see them free of tethers and wire
