I wasn’t ready for this capture, but found the phenomenon so interesting I just had to post it. The hoopoe had moved into a different area, and there was a cat watching. Suddenly I heard the slightest “whoosh” and saw a momentary flash of color, and I just pushed the shutter. The next second his crest was back in place, as pictured below:
