Hoopoe

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

There is supposed to be an aviary at the park, but we could never find it. This was the one bird we saw. The picture is tremendously cropped, but I thought it was a fascinating looking bird (and had seen them in Asir Province as well). And thanks to Bill, I now know it's a hoopoe!

I'm amazed that hoopoe's are found in SA! We saw our first one in Spain last April. They're magnificent and interesting birds! V

You are lucky to see this bird. I saw a hoopoe only two or three times in my life. Good catch. V

Certainly an interesting looking bird - a bit of woodpecker, sandpiper and mourning dove all mixed in together.

Nice shot of the bird, interesting how the upper part blends in with the background while the lower part is very distinct. V

It is a hoopoe. A bird I associate with the mediterranean regions, and when I feel warm !!
