The baboons of Asir -- jaywalking

This is the last of the baboon pictures, with the others posted today below. This one was shot from the far side of the car, though a window and with the car moving, albeit more slowly than usual. Thus, it’s not as sharp as I would like, but I thought the mother and baby were wonderful, as was the big baboon in the background watching them cross the highway.

To recap: We started our second day off in Asir with new adventures, among them seeing baboons all over the place. They congregate around garbage dumps (or more correctly, places where garbage has been dumped) and along the sides of roads. Unfortunately, they run away if you get too close, unless, of course, you have food to give them, in which case they are said to become aggressive.

This is a series of four baboon pictures, most shot from a moving vehicle. I tried so hard to get a good capture of them, with passengers in our car even calling out sightings, but it was tough to get and retain focus, and the driver didn’t seem inclined to slow down (they were just baboons, after all).

All the other baboon pictures posted today:

Amazing...I can't even imagine seeing a gang of baboons running free, unless they escaped from the zoo!

They seem to be a real menace with litter and the way they wander loose on the high way! A little unnerving I think..V+++

I'd love to live where there are monkeys. So cute, with the baby.
