I guess I was a bit off in my positioning for this shot (and didn't take many more, unfortunately), but wanted to show the Doric-style columns (86 in total) that feature in this market hall. Their design was Gaudí's response to Güell's insistence on giving an Ancient Greek or Hellenic feel to the place. The columns are functional as well as artistic as they are hollow, allowing rain from the square above to flow into a cistern beneath the market square. The rosettes -- four suns representing the seasons of the year and 14 moons depicting lunar cycles -- were created in trencadis (broken ceramic) work by Josep Maria Jujol.
