The auroras last week in northern Alaska were the best I've ever seen, with the Kp index hovering between 5 and 8(!) for most of five straight days. This was probably the best show of the last decade, regularly featuring reds, purples and other hues that are not ordinarily seen. The aurora here is shown above the peaks of the Brooks Range, about 300 miles north of Fairbanks. More to come.
