Common Loon ~ April 20 [7]

New London, Minnesota

Despite its name I find the Common Loon to be uncommonly beautiful--and largely monochromatic. Loons need fairly clear water in which to see their prey, and so I'm gratified to see them return to our own Mill Pond in the heart of downtown New London.

Superb capture. It is beautiful. Love it's red eye, green head and intricate pattern that shows so well in this detailed photo. And the water does look clear and clean.
