As we drove off the "road", a very loose term when traveling the "roads" of Northern Sudan, and
looked for a suitable spot to camp (tougher than it would seem in one of the most desolate places in the world, which is also the worlds largest desert),
we came upon these three guys wandering around (although, probably not just wandering, but actually moving towards a purposeful destination).
Which brings me to the title. The three of them with their transportation, unusually large and
tough looking camels (as if you didn't notice), looking at our bright orange transportation (Oscar del Toro - see name on door).
I just wonder what they were thinking. Look at this big piece of crap?, How come it's so bright?, This wouldn't last ten seconds in deep sand...,
Where do you feed it?, What the hell is it? ...well, I can only imagine as I will never know.
It did bring me to realize though, that after, what, 5000 years, the camel still is, as it always was,
the most reliable and best transport in the desert. They did enjoy the tea and
bread we gave them though, I think, and allowed us to take as many photos of them as we wanted.
Plus, after this chance meeting, we finally realized, that in the middle of nowhere, in one of the
harshest environments in the world, it doesn't matter where you camp. Being in a bright orange
truck, someone will always find you.
For some closeups of the nomads see Visitors, Good Smile and Wrapped (same guy), with the third one to be uploaded soon.
For another shot of the men and their camels, see Just Wandering.
Taken in the middle of nowhere, half a days drive south from Jebel Barkal, Sudan.
