One man, one camel, half a pyramid and lots of sand.
Meroe, Sudan. A country not often visited by tourists. Considered a "not so nice" country by most
of the world's standards. Driving for days down the Nile, a thin green strip of life in an
otherwise barren landscape of scorching heat called the Sahara. Turn a bend, rounding mounds of
upheaved black volcanic rock, the Sahara surprises you with a sight such as this. Nomad, sitting
still and upright on his camel, hearing us break the silence of the desert. Camel, big, white, and
regal, popping out against the hues of the sand turned bright orange by the midday sun. The
background, a pyramid, jutting into the royal blue sky, top torn off by some unknown explorer,
searching for gold, decades ago. We stop. The nomad turns his camel into the desert, the wind
blows. Nothing left but a memory and a photo. Your mind notices the scorching heat again.
