Love markets. Absolutely love em'. Whether they are the markets of West Africa,
the souqs of the Middle East or the markets of SE Asia. They are probably the
best way to get a real feel for the country and it's people, to mingle, meet and
talk to people and to just see how people live and intereact in different parts
of the world.
Some of the better markets I've been too and would highly recommend:
- Phsar Chas in Siem Reap, Cambodia
- Souqs of Aleppo, Syria
- The Gun and Qat markets, Sanaa', Yemen
- Fetish Markets, Abomey, Benin
- Lome, Togo: Huge, hot, steamingly humid and chaotic
- Floating Market, Bangkok, Thailand
- Souqs of Marrakech & Fes, Morocco
- all the smaller markets in Nigeria, Cameroon and Benin
- just about any market in West Africa
Taken in a town a few hours outside of Abomey, Benin.
