The lone Owlet left the nest overnight. I fond it trying to climb a small tree to get closer to where Mom was watching from higher up.
Unlike Great Horned Owlets which can exercise their wings on top of their nest, this little one had been confined to a hollow in a tree; hence, no opportunity to exercise its wings before tumbling out of the nest hole to the ground. It was now valiantly trying to get up higher off the forest floor by flapping its little wings, grabbing the tree with its already formidable talons and grabbing the bark with its beak. It tried to get higher repeatedly, but kept on falling back to the ground, only to get up and try again at another location.
