It's not often one gets to photograph this flighty little bird using a 105 mm lens. This little lady flew against our bedroom window and dropped to the patio below where my grandson found it, after I almost stepped on it. It was dazed, but she seemed to just have the wind knocked out of her. We cuddled it for a while in our hands and then placed it on top of a flowering planter. From there it fluttered to the side of the plant. Then after a few minutes it flew to a nearby Spruce tree where it seemed to rest for about 10 minutes, then it disappeared.
A few hours earlier, I had found a female Ruby-crowned Kinglet on the patio in almost the same location. It must have just dropped there as it was still warm. It blinked once at me, then died, probably from a broken neck.
