Four images depicting the female Hummer's defensive posturing against an intruder, followed by an aerial attack image. As stated previously, this female Hummingbird seemed to have claimed my backyard as its territory and it wouldn't tolerate the encroachment of other Hummingbirds. On one occasion it almost hit me in the head as it was pursuing one of the intruders. All I heard was a loud, super fast swish about a foot in front of my face. My these little birds can turn on the jets.
Top image: On the lookout for and looking tough for a suspected intruder.
"Good, I think I scared it away"
"But where did it go? Perhaps it went that way?"
"No, it must have gone the other way."
"Oh! Darn it, it's right overhead."
