Exquisite gilt copper alloy eagle pendant, early Medieval-Medieval, Suffolk, UK.

Recorded in PAS (SF-76A207) with the following description:
"Cast copper-alloy pendant of possible late Early-Medieval to Medieval date. It has a flat plate that is in the form of a stylised double-headed bird. At the top of the plate is an integrally cast oval shaped suspension loop set at right angles to the plane of the plate and with a central circular aperture. The heads of the bird face in opposite directions beneath the suspension loop with a narrow neck below that expands to spread wings of rectangular form and a projecting triangular tail at the base. The front face of the pendant has the remains of moulded decoration comprising a raised border around the entire object, oval shaped eyes, and vertical ridges outlining the feathers on the wings and the tail. The tail feathers are arranged in a triangular/chevron pattern. There are traces of gilding at the top of the plate near the suspension loop. The back face is flat and undecorated but has patches of very worn green patina. It measures 22.29mm in height, 9.05mm in width, 1.42mm in thickness, and 0.82g in weight." Found April 2011, Great Barton, St. Edmundsbury, Suffolk, UK.
