Kershaw (2011) argues for a derivation from Carolingian baldric mounts and for an origin in southern Scandinavia. Kershaw (2010) attributes this motif to the Terslev Style.
"In common with other Carolingian trefoil mounts, these recent discoveries are decorated with florid acanthus motifs characteristic of Carolingian art."
The brooch is a Maixner Type G 1.3, dating circa AD 850-950 and is very similar to LEIC-A43E83, LIN-56D731 and DENO-E9A0F5 in the PAS database.
