There are several active burrows around Cape Coral. This one was by the library. I was there just before nesting season, so the owls weren't doing much other than keeping watch by the entrance to their burrow, and diving back in whenever there was a threat. I couldn't figure out what the threat was until a shrike flew right over us and then I realized that burrowing do not like shrikes! There were 4 shrikes hanging around this area.
Thanks to the Cape Coral Friend of Wildlife for all their efforts in protecting these owls.
