A major part of my motivation for putting all of these bird and wildlife photos on the net is to draw attention to the plight of the many species that are at risk of extinction due to habitat destruction, pollution, global warming, introduced exotic species and diseases, or over-hunting. All of the species in this gallery are listed as endangered, declining or vulnerable to extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, BirdLife International, American Bird Conservancy, North American Bird Conservation Initiative or Partners In Flight, or under the U.S. Endangered Species Act or the California Endangered Species Act.
