These galleries include all of the bird photos displayed in the other galleries, and many more, arranged by order, family and species (and, in some cases, recognizable forms or subspecies), following the taxonomy of The eBird/Clements Checklist of Birds of the World. I am currently updating common and scientific names, and sequences to those used in v2021 of the Clements Checklist, but it is a slow process and many species are still listed using names and sequences from earlier versions of the Checklist.

The galleries currently depict 819 species. Warning: Photos vary widely in quality - I use the best I have for each species, even if that isn't very good. I am always trying to add better photos, but . . . so many birds, so little time.

Populations of many of the species depicted here are declining and some are at risk of extinction, due to habitat destruction, pollution, global warming, introduced exotic species or over-hunting. Galleries labeled with links such as North American Bird Conservation Initiative Watch List or U.S. Endangered Species Act: Endangered indicate species that are listed as endangered, declining or vulnerable to extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, BirdLife International, American Bird Conservancy, North American Bird Conservation Initiative or Partners In Flight, or under the U.S. Endangered Species Act or the California Endangered Species Act.
