Thanks to the contributers to this thread out in "Photo Editing Software" for the links to the free Photoshop Elements Plugins for B&W Processing:
B/W images that really pop...

I really wanted to do a portrait today, but the wife wasn't interested. I did go back to some older photos and ran them through the "Virtual Photographer" plugin and was really amazed at the results.

This is a honeycomb from a hornet's nest that was on our deck. Looks a bit eerie. By the way, I wouldn't recommend that others attempt to upset a hornet's nest then snap photos at the same time...

(No hornets were injured in this photo session)
