Polaris Startrails

Freedom, NH view map

This is what I had intended on shooting last night had my remote shutter release worked. I asked around this morning about any camera shops nearby. Low and behold, there were a few! I called them and found out that they did not have any remote shutter releases for Canon. Luckily I had my electronics kit with me (don't ask, I know I am camping) so I ripped the unit apart and had to remove about 3" of cable that was causing the shutter to trip. After I re-soldered the wires back in, I was good to go. I wish I'd gone for a slightly longer shot now as this is the last night of the weekend that I will be able to get this kind of shot (the campground will fill in tomorrow).

As you can see, I didn't quite have the camera centered on Polaris. It wasn't easy even getting Polaris into view as I was kneeling (later sitting) on the ground with my tripod on its low setting. Live view comes in handy, but you still have to estimate dead center.

Here's the shot (PaD) from last night:

Canon EOS 40D ,Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
600s f/4.0 at 70.0mm iso200 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto
