For those not from around here, a Live Oak is not the opposite of a dead oak, but a species of Oak that retains green leaves all winter, then drops them in the spring as new leaves emerge. Live Oak leaves are not lobed as are most oaks. The catkins (the "flower"} form at the same time. The yellow green strings are the catkins.
