Gowlland Tod Provincial Park: McKenzie Bight Trail: Chapter 1
Gowlland Tod Provincial Park (Southern Vancouver Island on the Saanich Peninsula near Victoria) is like the gift that keeps on giving... more wonderful trails with unexpected views around every bend. This trail, McKenzie Bight, is mostly downhill from the trailhead, ending at a beach on Finlayson Arm. It is wide and easy hiking to the tidewater. We chose to return via Cascade Trail and Timberman Trail to a spot on the road near the original trailhead. With lots of time for exploring and photographing, our hike's duration was just under two hours. Cascade Trail is a steep and fairly strenuous hike, with all the elevation gain put into half of McKenzie Bight Trail's distance, but the remainder of the hike on Timberman Trail is another easy go on a wide trail. On Cascade Trail there are some beautiful views of water cascading down moss and fern covered cliffs and after a rain they would be exceptional.
