After all the other photographers and idle curious have left is my favourite time. It's quiet on cloudy days when most photographers don't come out (because sunny days are best for flight and sunset warm light shots). That's when I like to spend some time with a particularly friendly Snowy Owl just east of Ottawa. I have affectionately named it "Junior" because it does have the heavy barring indicative of a juvenile plumage for this species of owl. You don't need to do anything except sit there and watch it. After awhile it starts to relax and maybe even fall asleep. Eventually you are rewarded with the owl stretching, yawning, grooming itself and sticking its head right into the snow. This is the part of Snowy Owl watching I enjoy the most, observing their behaviour. It's a priviledge because how many people get this kind of opportunity?
This is a greatly down-sized image. Any artifects (noticed some in the sky) in the posted image are the result of that.
