A tame Coopers Hawk perches on a low branch. The image above is almost full-frame. The hawk was perched on the same branch for the longest time allowing photos from a variety of angles. It was only distracted when a squirrel or two foolishly scurried by beneath it.
A pair of Coopers Hawks have nested at this location for the past two years using the same tree. The young are quite tame and can be photographed starting in mid July. From what I understand, there were three young born this year but one was found dead nearby. A worker speculated it may have been attacked by some people.
