Several of these large turtles inhabit a local pond here in a conservation area. Highly aquatic, it likes to rest in warm shallows, often buried in mud, with only its eyes and nostrils exposed. It emerges in April from a winter retreat.

I found the light soft and enchanting. The composition is near full frame. I enjoy images like this that rise above the ordinary.
