The fledgling looked helpless on the ground, constantly harassed by bugs and flies. It was only a matter of days before the young owl made it to higher ground. I observed it over several months and am happy to report it survived and grew up into a big owl. Juvenile Barred Owls can stay with parent birds for about 5 months before heading off on their own.
