This rather tame green heron offered many photo ops. A fire truck or two sped by with loud horns blasting and the heron did not even flinch.

Went to see the juvenile barred owl afterwards. It was not as active as the day before. It's all about timing. I did see the male barred owl wake up. And just like people, it wakes up slowly, does a little stretch, looks around, sees it's still a bit bright out...goes back to sleep. Wakes up again later, poops, goes back to sleep. I am observing this quietly. When finally it did wake up fully, made about 4 loud contact calls only 10 feet from where I was watching it. The owl was perched 10 feet up but depending on where you stand, can see it at eye level too.. It was really cool to hear the owl calling in person.
