People of Huahine defended their independence for whopping 40 years, before they were forced to accept the inevitable. In a contemporary time being a French Territory and part of European Union has both its merits and minuses, similarly to the dilemma of Hawaii being a state of the USA. In a recent time the Island because famous through excavations of Prof. Sinoto, of the Bishop Museum, Honolulu. Huahine is blessed by a large amount of original or restored Tahitian stone temples, called Marae. If you look for a contemporary Polynesia without golf courses and bloated hotel lobbies, this might be a great place to go! You will find unspoiled places to swim, good cousin and friendly people. We will never forget the time spend on this Island! We will be back! |
