almost every Bisti photo features cool close-ups of hoodoos or bizarre rock formations...trekking about the area reveals that you often arrive at these rock and clay clusters in a ravine, and then must scramble up precipitous slopes for a closer look...caprocks on the hoodoos are evident enough, with various sediment strata beneath....the darker layers are a strain of coal...assessing the scene and moment is Dan, with two SLRs and two compacts, ready for anything
