Hunt's Mesa was the day's ultimate goal, and at a first stop on the incredible drive to the top we paused to take in the terrain....dry earth and desiccated juniper trees bore witness to the challenging conditions here

This old juniper did become quite large before it succumbed to the harsh elements.
