my interest in the area first piqued by pix from fellow pbaser Carol How, I finally got down to the region known as the Palouse...these rolling grasslands were long occupied by Nez Perce natives, but the 19th century arrival of settlers saw the land transformed for large scale agriculture...there is a gentle flow to the terrain here, where deep, rich soils make it one of the most productive areas in the U.S.A. for wheat and lentils, and various other crops
