magnets

The Dalles, Oregon

it's odd how bold advertising signs that the mind usually filters out of a scene suddenly become magnets for the eyes when you are looking for a place to stay...this motel was easy to spot, OK for a couple of nights, cheap, and well located by the old town area, and more importantly, just one block from a brewpub...despite the figure in a swimsuit, there was no trace of a pool though

You can probably see the signs a mile away. Advertising and location are the key to success.

This looks like a scene from years ago, no change here! Your eyes really zero in on it when your road weary. Nice catch. V

You can't miss those signs especially the one with the swimsuit....hope you had a nice time at the pub :)) V

Excellent composition!

A good place to stay if it was close to the brewpub! Maybe the diving figure is really a trapeze artist. Did they have swings there? A well composed, colorful shot. V

Nice catch..A lot of marketing in one image.

Beautiful capture of these signs with excellent light and colors. A true classic of the road side America. BV

Ah, the no-tell-motel! Love this old-fashioned styling; definitely old Americana. :)

Colorful image and the signs do dominate it. I'm sure they draw in a lot of visitors. V.

Glad Sam pointed out the swimmer sign. What a great sign. If you're shooting with Sam, you probably got a whopping 3 or 4 hours sleep. lol

So true. I'm an eagle eye for this signage. These places are great for photographers, who are never in the room anyway.

a great image of this sign

I remember that the signs really helped us locate this place, right after we had eaten a great lunch and had a few beers at the brewpub. A few more beers and we might not have noticed even these! Nice capture of this bit of Americana. (I never noticed the swimmer sign for the pool, and certainly never noticed where the pool might have been).

Not sure what the 3rd sign adds that we couldn't already tell by the huge MOTEL sign. You should try for a refund if there was no pool :0)

I'd have probably driven straight by, the signs are to subtle for me.

Well "noticed"! I recall it very well but didn't think about it. The signs protest too much. It was no place of significance. I like it!.

I know what you mean :-) This is a very eyecatching shot in and of itself. V

Bold advertising to catch the eye. Proximity to the brewpub is important. Nice shot, David

Great color and light, and definitely would attract attention if in need of a room. I find the swimsuit figure fascinating; maybe they turned the pool into a parking lot so they could call it a "motor motel" ;-). V.

These bold signs do get your attention! Well seen and captured.

Looks like a good dive to spent a few nights and I like fact a brewery is near by!

Eye catching though the swimsuit is a little dated, very retro, nice find David...
Jola Dziubinska18-Jun-2013 15:34
Good find and they catch the eye well with the diving girl LOL. V.

An interesting study in sign magnetism, with this use of shapes, fonts and colors. Hopefully the figure is not allusion that this establishment is a dive. "V"
