Shinto style

the Nitobe Memorial Garden is a peaceful retreat on the university grounds...it is apparently conceived as a 'Shinto-style stroll garden'...the idea seems to be that a walk around the paths reflects the journey through life, and the little statue here is a 'remembering lantern'...this info was gleaned from a little map given as you enter, although in just two acres it would be hard to get lost
