as older homes are demolished, newer ones pop up around the neighbourhood, many of the big box variety...these can be rather plain, although the owners often put some work into their gardens

Interesting and colorful POV and a very interesting observation. Here, when they knock down older houses in established neighborhoods, the house that is built in its place is anything but plain and if anything overly fancy and usually very expensive. ~V~
