Whats_It

This appeared upon opening my annual
gingerbread house recipe book which only
gets opened once a year !! It was
approx. 1/16" - so small it was difficult
to photograph even with my macro lens.
What ever it was, it is no longer :(

other sizes: small medium original auto

Common Dermestid Beetles larva (warehouse beetle) found in homes.

Dermestid beetles occur throughout the state, both indoors and outside.
Several species are nearly worldwide in distribution as they are commonly carried with stored food products.
At least 39 species of dermestid beetles have been reported from the state, but only about a half dozen are commonly found in buildings.

So, it is no longer... you said!?
Wen there was one, there is more...

GOOD LUCK!

Early instar of a larval dermestid beetle. One of the species infesting stored food stuffs. You have probably seen more since! Likely feeding on "floury" things like flour, pancake and biscuit mixes, cake mixes, etc.

Wow, you did great with your macro in spite of how tiny the thing is. Sharp lens! You even got the screen dots of the ink on the page! Not something I'd welcome seeing in my recipe book, but cool nonetheless that you managed to photograph it!!
