Heath Monitor, Varanus rosenbergi kuringai

Kowmung River area NSW

These elusive, ground dwelling monitors can be distinguished from Lace monitors by the narrower banding on the snout which
does not wrap around the nose as it does in Varanus varius. Heath monitors also have much narrower banding on the tail. Heath
Monitors live in drier woodlands and heaths, sheltering in burrows beneath tree stumps or large rocks, or within rock crevices.
