Pink-tongued skink

North-east of Killarney, Qld

I was lost on some back road between Main Range National Park and Killarney in Qld and stopped to stretch my skinny legs in some
of the highland rainforest I had found. Basking in a patch of sunlight was this delightful juvenile pink-tongued skink, which is a bit
like a tree-climbing bluetongue. They are rather partial to slugs and enjoy a bit of plant material in their diet. This species of skink
grows to well over 30 cm in length, but is probably more common than supposed as it enjoys lurking in tree hollows in rainforests.
The species is also partially nocturnal.
