Fallen trees provide important habitat for many animals, and in Tasmania, provide basking sites from which skinks like this can leap
to the safety of the thick vegetation if a currawong should arrive on the scene. This Metallic skink was beside the Pencil Pine Walk
near Cradle Mountain. These common skinks give birth to live young and grow to a length of about 12 cm.
