Lizard on log

Cradle Valley, Tasmania, Australia

Fallen trees provide important habitat for many animals, and in Tasmania, provide basking sites from which skinks like this can leap
to the safety of the thick vegetation if a currawong should arrive on the scene. This Metallic skink was beside the Pencil Pine Walk
near Cradle Mountain. These common skinks give birth to live young and grow to a length of about 12 cm.
