Thick-tailed gecko, Underwoodisaurus millii

Idalia National Park, Qld

This gecko was photographed in Idalia National Park, Qld, during a fauna survey. It has a different
arrangement of spots and spines than specimens from other areas, and may in time be found to represent a distinct species.
The strongly banded black and white tail is raised and undulated when the gecko is threatened, perhaps to draw attention away from the head.
