Smooth Knob-tailed gecko, Nephrurus levis

These spectacular creatures look soft but live in some of the harshest environments in Australia. The fat tail is a reserve for lean
times. The purpose of the knob is unknown (although the geckos probably have some clue) but in many areas where knob-tailed
geckos occur they feature in the dreaming lore of the local Aboriginal people, and the stories are usually unpleasant.
