The arid deserts of Australia are amongst the most biodiverse places on the continent, as long as there are no artificial watering
points which allow many introduced herbivores to flourish. Daytime temperatures in Summer can climb to over 50 degrees Celcius
during the day, and plummet well below freezing on a winter's night. The Tightly packed leaves of the hummock grass provide not
only protection from extremes of temperature, but physical protection for an otherwise vulnerable and delicate-looking lizard.
