The Tarantula nebula and neighbours in the Large Magellanic Cloud

The Tarantula nebula in the upper center part of this image is an extremely bright and large emisson nebula, excited by the energetic star cluster NGC 2070. It is located in the south eastern part of the Large Magellanic Cloud, the largest satellite galaxy of our Milky Way in a distance of about 160000 light years.
